Courses are either fully-funded by the NHS, part-funded, or self-funded. For part- and self-funded courses, you may be eligible to apply for loans from Student Finance England, or a Professional Career Development Loan from the government.

What do the course levels mean?

Levels 4, 5 and 6 are undergraduate level courses and modules. You’re an undergraduate student if you are studying for your first degree-level qualification.

Level 7 courses and modules are postgraduate level. Level 7 is typically for those who have completed an undergraduate degree.

    Within the programme, there are the following specialist pathways: Community Nursing in the Home (District Nurse Specialist Practice Qualification) and Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (School Nursing or Health Visiting).

  • Carbon Capture [Course]

    Our two-day Carbon Capture course will provide delegates with a strong foundational understanding of climate change and its impacts, including the potential risks and practical solutions available to mitigate and adapt to those risks.

    Run over 3 consecutive weeks, our 3-day Climate Change Essentials course provides delegates with a strong foundational understanding of climate change and its impacts, including the potential risks and practical solutions available to mitigate and adapt to those risks.

  • Community Practitioner Nurse Prescribing [Module]

    This module enables you to prescribe for the patients you currently work with and prescribe from Nurse Prescribers Formulary for Community Practitioners.

  • Consolidation of Practice (District Nursing) []

    (Specialist Practice Qualification in Community Nursing DN SPQ (District Nursing))

    This is the final module for the Community BSc / PGDip programme. It is designed to allow you to consolidate your learning from all the other modules undertaken during the programme and to facilitate the holistic application of learning in practice.

    It is undertaken as a full-time period of practice during Trimester three, in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for the District Nurse Specialist Practitioner Qualification and is a core module for all Community Specialist Practice Pathways. For successful completion of the module, competence to practise within the specialist area in accordance with the NMC standards must be demonstrated.

    Additional Study days are planned throughout the trimester.

  • Consolidation of Practice Portfolio (specified pathway) - Community Only []

    This module is the final module for the BSc in Community Nursing - Community Nursing in the Home (District Nursing) programme. It is designed to allow you to consolidate your learning from all other modules undertaken within the programme and to facilitate the holistic application of learning in practice.

    It is undertaken as a full-time period of practice at the end of the programme, in accordance with NMC requirements for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing programmes and is extended to other pathways in order to promote consistency between Community Specialist Practice pathways. For successful completion of the module, competence to practise within the specialist area in accordance with the standards published by the NMC (2001), must be demonstrated.

    Study Days are planned on campus during the Semester.

    There are 800,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2021. This module aims to provide the health and social care practitioners and carers with an insight into the dementia.

    This module aims to provide a framework through which you can tailor your learning experience to meet the requirements of your operating environment.

    Explore the knowledge base that supports the facilitation of teaching, learning and assessing in practice, in order to develop the role of the practice educator.

    This module provides a structure to enable reflective learning and encourages learning from experience by means of tutorial guidance and advice.

  • Evidencing Values Based Care and Conduct in Associate Practice [Module]

    This practice-based module has been designed to allow the you to demonstrate your knowledge and skills, and encourages exploration of specific theory and practice issues from your field of practice.

    This module will give you the skills needed for academic study, to build your self-confidence, to familiarise you with current tools and technology, and enables you to think critically about the work you do.

    This course is designed to prepare practitioners with the knowledge and skills necessary to assess, diagnose and divide Ankyloglossia (Tongue Tie) in babies.

    This module will introduce you to the role of the health and social care professional. You'll explore collaborative working within the context of the integrated care agenda and develop an awareness of the key national public health issues.

    By studying this module, you'll have the opportunity to identify an issue related to your experience in health or social care, and draw on a range of evidence and information in order to propose a response to that issue.

  • MSc Midwifery (top-up) [Course]

    This programme is aimed at Midwives who have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery, to top-up their qualification to an MSc.

  • Nature-Based Solutions [Course]

    Run over three consecutive weeks, this three-day course provides delegates with a thorough understanding of nature-based solutions for climate resilience: what they are, how they can help with climate change adaptation and resilience, an overview of ecosystem services and their benefits, and the benefits that nature-based solutions can provide for your business.

    This module has been developed following the Government's decision to extend prescribing responsibilities to Nurses, Pharmacists and some Allied Health Professional groups.There are three pathways available on this module tailored to your area of practice.

Flexible routes into nursing, healthcare and social work

We offer a range of flexible routes into nursing and healthcare including an apprenticeship, Nursing Associate, foundation degree and University Certificate. These options are a great way to learn and gain experience at the same time, without the need for full-time study at the University.
