What you'll study

Sorry, this course is now closed to applications to study in 2022. Applications for the next intake will open in due course.

The purpose of the module is to teach students the basics of studying at higher education level. The module will explore the key principles and theories of study in higher education. The aim is to provide the students with the skills they need for academic study, to build their self-confidence, to familiarise them with current tools and technology and to steer them into the habit of thinking critically about the work they do.

The module is practical in nature, comprising a series of seven face-to-face workshops plus weekly tasks done using the virtual learning environment. The students are guided by the workshops and individual academic supervision and are also expected to direct their own learning.

The course is assessed by a reflective essay.

The module is part of the University Certificate in Practice Skills for Health and Social Care programme of study.

Extra sessions might be scheduled for students who feel they need extra support. These are likely to be on Fridays where no formal workshop is scheduled, so if possible, it is a good idea to try to keep Fridays free for Study Skills for the whole term.

Starts in: Duration:
