Our researchers played a pivotal role in Hull securing UK City of Culture in 2017 by informing the winning bid, creating and producing events. The Culture, Place and Policy Institute evaluated the socio-economic impact on the city of the year-long cultural programme, and informed and influenced associated local heritage projects such as Hull’s successful ‘Maritime City’ bid (National Lottery). This work contributed to the emergence of heritage and the creative industries theme as a research priority.
