The Collections, Learning and Research (CLR) group within the University Library provides a range of support for members of staff. CLR incorporates the Skills Team, Hull University Archives (Hull History Centre), Library Research Services and Collections Development Team. Teaching & Collections

CLR can help staff with integrating skills development, research, information literacy and archives practices into the curriculum. Support can include:

  • Helping to develop resources for taught sessions or as online resources in Canvas
  • Acting as consultants and course designers for relevant areas of the curriculum
  • Helping to integrate resources and collections into the development of new modules and programmes 
  • Supporting your delivery of CLR related content through providing and contextualising session plans, online content, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and handouts
  • Providing direct teaching in the curriculum where appropriate, specifically where it helps to have an expert from our team support a lecture or other session
  • Helping you develop new skills so you can pass these on to your students
  • Training on the reading list software, Keylinks
  • Providing opportunities to incorporate archival research and exhibition projects into courses
  • Supporting the provision of Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) in your academic modules

Research

CLR provides services for staff undertaking or managing research. Areas of expertise include:

  • Expert literature searching and systematic review
  • Identification of archival collections available for research use
  • Bibliographic management (EndNote & RefWorks)
  • Specialist analysis software (NVivo to expert level & introductory use of IMB SPSS Statistics)
  • Microsoft Office for research purposes
  • Survey Design and JISC OnlineSurveys
  • Palaeographical skills
  • Copyright and Data Protection issues surrounding the use of archives in research
  • Best practice in Research Data Management
  • Open Access publishing options and compliance with funder/publisher criteria
  • Sourcing and interpreting bibliometric data
