Book a seat

Page updated: 12 October 2021

If you wish to study in the Library you can book a specific seat, group study room or group table using the links below on this webpage. This gives access to a study space with a computer, plug socket, overhead light and/or a chair dependent on the choices you make when booking. You can also choose your favourite location to study, the Reading Room is a silent study area while the 7th floor has fantastic views of the city. Plan your study time by booking up to 2 weeks in advance.

Soft seating located around the Library can be used as space for you to take a break or share learning with friends. This is not bookable but is available for use.

Bookable seats are numbered by their floor, space and location. If you want to know where your seat is located, please look at the floor maps below. You will need to check in and check out of your seat as you arrive and leave. Failure to check in will lose your booking. Instructions for check in and check out are sent to your University email address when you book a seat.

Library spaces are available in line with our opening hours. Availability can be seen when booking a seat on our webpages.

Laptops can be borrowed from our laptop loans cabinet located on the first floor of the Library. Laptops will issue for a maximum of 8 hours of until the end of the day (whichever is sooner). Cleaning supplies are provided.

Group study rooms can be used for collaborative working or for video conferencing. Each room has occupancy information detailed when booking. The Family room is designed to help support you to work in the Library when accompanied by children. Children must not be left unsupervised at any time in the University Library.

Group study rooms and the Family room can be booked for up to 4 hours per day by following the links below. If you need a group study room or Family room for a longer duration of time, please contact the Library or talk to a member of staff.

Check in and check out

When you arrive at your booked seat or space, you must check in. You can do this by following the link in your confirmation or reminder email.

Alternatively, you can check in by scanning the QR code available on posters near the study seats. If you are unable to scan the QR code, simply visit the Seat and Space Bookings Portal. For both these methods, you will need the three digit code that was emailed to you on booking.

Scanning a QR code is really easy on most Apple and Android mobile phones - just point your camera app at the code. Some older mobiles will require you to install an app to do this, simply search 'QR reader' on the Google Play or Apple App Store to find an app.
