Book a seat or room

The Library has a range of study spaces, some of which are bookable and others which are open access. You can plan your time up to two weeks in advance by booking a seat or a group study room. If you would rather not book a specific seat, that's fine too, simply find a seat which is non-bookable. Please note, you no longer need to check-in and check-out of your booked seat - but this is still required for our Group Learning Rooms.

Bookable seats & spaces:

These seats and spaces must be reserved ahead of your visit with our booking system:

  • Reading Room including the Mezzanine (Silent Study)
  • Post Graduate Lounge (2nd Floor)
  • All Group Study Rooms including the Family Room

Open-access seats:

Our open-access seats do not require booking ahead of your visit. Please use any of the available seats:

  • Ground Floor
  • 1st Floor
  • 2nd Floor
  • 3rd Floor
  • 4th Floor
  • 5th Floor
  • 6th Floor
  • 7th Floor including the large Observatory tables

Bookable spaces are numbered by their floor, space and location. If you want to know where your seat is located, please look at the floor maps below.

Library spaces are available in line with our opening hours. Availability can be seen when booking a seat on our webpages.

Laptops can be borrowed from our laptop loans cabinet located on the first floor of the Library. Laptops will issue for a maximum of eight hours. Cleaning supplies are provided.

Group Learning Rooms can be used for collaborative working or for video conferencing. Each room has occupancy information detailed when booking. You will need to check in and check out of your Group Study Room as you arrive and leave. Failure to check in will lose your booking. Instructions for check in and check out are sent to your University email address when you book a seat.

The Family Room is designed to help support you to work in the Library when accompanied by children. Children must not be left unsupervised at any time in the University Library. The Family Room is closed at 8pm every day, and is not bookable outside of library staffed hours.

Group Learning Rooms and the Family Room can be booked for up to 4 hours per day by following the links below. If you need a group study room for a longer duration of time or are concerned at all about Covid19 please contact the Library or talk to a member of staff for support.

Check in and check out of Group Learning Rooms

If you have booked a Group Learning Room, you need to check-in and out. When you arrive at the room, you must check in by following the link in your confirmation or reminder email.

Alternatively, you can check in by scanning the QR code available on posters in the room. If you are unable to scan the QR code, simply visit the Seat and Space Bookings Portal. For both these methods, you will need the three digit code that was emailed to you on booking.

Scanning a QR code is really easy on most Apple and Android mobile phones - just point your camera app at the code. Some older mobiles will require you to install an app to do this, simply search 'QR reader' on the Google Play or Apple App Store to find an app.
