Associate Membership

What is Associate Membership?

Anyone in our local community can apply to join the Library as an Associate Member, providing they can meet one of the criteria below.

Associate Membership provides annual access. Our day visitor scheme may be more suitable for short term access, and those studying at other higher education institutions should apply using SCONUL.

How much does it cost?

Membership and reference-only use of the Library is free, but there are charges for borrowing books for certain groups:

Borrowing entitlement

Associate members who have borrowing rights may borrow up to 10 books or other items at any one time. Items must be returned by the due dates specified or renewed. Fines are charged on all overdue items.

Renewing borrowed items

You can renew items online by logging in to your library account.

To log in:

  • Choose the 'University of Hull Login' option
  • For the email address, enter your userID followed by @hull.ac.uk.  For example 699299@hull.ac.uk
  • Enter your password

If you are logging in for the first time, you will be guided through the process of setting up 'Multi-Factor Authentication'. In other words, you will be asked to supply a mobile phone number that can be used to send you a 6-digit code every time you log in, in order to verify your identity.

If you prefer, you can contact the Library to renew books for you.

Other library services

All associate members can use:

  • the university’s Guest WiFi service
  • our printing facilities – please speak to a member of library staff if you would like to add printing credits to your account
  • some of the Library's electronic resources (from on-campus PCs only)

During term time, we are unable to book Group Learning Rooms for our associate members.
