The SCONUL scheme

The Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL) is a reciprocal scheme which allows university library users to borrow or use resources at other libraries which belong to the scheme. 

University of Hull students and staff wishing to visit participating libraries should apply using the online SCONUL application form. Once your application has been processed, you will receive an email with the outcome of your request and further information on how to take part in the scheme if applicable.

 

SCONUL summer vacation access scheme

This scheme enables you to use all Universty libraries during summer vacation or Trimester 3 for reference purposes only. You will need to present proof of your current membership of the University of Hull - a current student card will be acceptable to the visiting institution. Contact the other library ahead of your visit to confirm their policies and opening times.

 

Visiting Hull as part of the SCONUL scheme

Students and staff from other participating libraries who wish to visit the Brynmor Jones Library, University of Hull should apply using the online SCONUL application form. Your application will be processed by your home institution and you will receive an email with the outcome of your request and further information on how to take part in the scheme if applicable.

Before visiting the Brynmor Jones Library, please complete our Library Membership application form and upload your acceptance email. We will contact you once your request has been processed and your Library card is ready for collection. Please ensure you have read through our Library regulations and adhere to our policies. 

 

SCONUL users fall into three bands:

  • Full-time undergraduates have reference access only.
  • SCONUL access cards can take up to 48 hours to activate. 
  • Visiting SCONUL members will not receive a University of Hull ICT user name and password but can use their own device connecting to our guest Wi-Fi or the Eduroam network if it is also used by their home institution.
