University of Sanctuary

A welcoming campus

We are committed to ensuring that our campus is a place of welcome and are delighted to be able to offer people seeking sanctuary the opportunity to become members of our University Library.

University Library: Sanctuary associate membership

We welcome applications from people seeking sanctuary for associate membership of the University Library. Sanctuary associate membership is free and offers access to more than a million books and online resources within our Library collections. Sanctuary associate members may borrow up to 10 items at a time and are able to access selected electronic resources using computers within the Library building. Sanctuary associate members may also make use of Library study spaces and IT facilities.

Please use the online form available on the Library website to apply for Sanctuary associate membership. Please ensure that you have a letter of support from a recognised sanctuary support organisation (see below) to upload during your application.

Membership is renewable annually from the date of application, provided support from a relevant organisation is continuing.

Eligibility

The scheme aims to support those who have sought sanctuary in the UK through the asylum system, resettlement routes or similar. Applicants may be at any stage in the asylum process.

As part of your application, you will need to provide a letter of support signed by a representative from a recognised organisation which works with forced migrants who have sought sanctuary in the UK. Letters should be on the organisation’s official letterhead.

Template text for letters and an indicative list of recognised sanctuary support organisations are provided below. Letters of support from other relevant organisations not listed below may also be accepted.
