About Dr Kimberley Bexon

I am currently a Lecturer in Forensic Science and Programme Director for the MSc Forensic Science at Hull York Medical School. My teaching is practitioner-focused and experience-led, with a particular emphasis on the biological aspects of forensic analysis, including DNA profiling and body fluid identification.

I hold an Honours degree in Biomedical Science from Leeds Metropolitan University and an MSc in Forensic Science from the University of Huddersfield. My professional career began in 2011 as a DNA Analyst at LGC Forensics (now Eurofins), where I worked on both volume and major crime cases, conducting body fluid identification, DNA extraction, quantification, and profiling.

To advance forensic methodologies, I pursued a PhD investigating the use of miRNA and qPCR to improve body fluid identification, with a focus on samples relevant to sexual assault investigations.

In 2017, I transitioned into industry as a Technical Specialist in qPCR at Primerdesign/Novacyt, supporting both academic and commercial researchers. I then returned to academia in 2019 as a Lecturer in Forensic Science at the University of Huddersfield before joining the University of Hull in 2023.
