About this course

This programme provides in-depth knowledge and expertise for those looking to become leaders in the field of strength and conditioning. You’ll deepen your knowledge in key areas including strength and conditioning for performance athletes, clinical populations and injury, alongside furthering your knowledge and understanding of social theory to enhance your coaching effectiveness and build stronger coach athlete relationships.

The programme includes practical placements and a research project, giving you the opportunity to explore cutting-edge topics in strength and conditioning. Also, with our strong industry connections you'll have no problem building a professional network with links such as Hull FC, Hull Kingston Rovers, and Team GB. By the end of the programme, you'll be equipped with the skills and experience to excel in a competitive and evolving field.

You’ll benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities, including our newly built strength and conditioning suite, our recently renovated £16 million Allam Sport Centre, our advanced performance analysis lab, and our dedicated sport rehabilitation suite. You’ll also be taught by experts who have extensive experience in professional, semi professional and amateur sports, rehabilitation, and clinical practice.

Choose your modules

You’ll study five modules which equate to 180 credits over the course of the year (over 2 years for part time students). Each module is assigned a certain number of credits, some worth 20 credits and some worth 40 credits for longer modules. You will also take a research project which is worth 60 credits. All modules are compulsory.

What do I need?

Typical offer
2:1 in relevant subject area

At Hull, we require a 2:1 in a related field for entry to the MSc Strength & Conditioning. We typically consider degrees in sports science, physiotherapy, sports coaching, sports rehabilitation or similar disciplines.

However, a 2:2 may be accepted if you have relevant experience and successfully complete an interview.

If you’re an undergraduate student at Hull, you’re guaranteed a fast-track route to this postgraduate degree, as long as you meet the entry requirements.

In order to ensure our students have a rich learning and student experience, most of our programmes have a mix of domestic and international students. We reserve the right to close applications early to either group if application volumes suggest that this blend cannot be achieved.

This course requires academic IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in each skill. See other English language proficiency qualifications accepted by the University of Hull.

This £1.5 million laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility for teaching, research and sport science support in the field of biomechanics.

Allam Sport Centre

We've invested £16 million in new sports facilities, including a state-of-the-art gym and new pitches. So you'll be learning with the sector's most innovative technology.

Sport Rehabilitation Suite

We have two specialist sports rehabilitation teaching suites providing students with state-of-the-art spaces for practical skills labs, group-based seminars and a student-led Sports Injury Clinic.

Future prospects

You’ll graduate with advanced expertise in performance strength and conditioning, coaching science and enhanced ability to work within clinical and injury rehabilitation settings.

Throughout the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences our graduates go on to work in elite level sport, in roles such as heads of performance, lead strength and conditioning coaches, performance analysts, exercise rehabilitation instructors, lecturers and post-graduate researchers
