A distinctive feature of the programme is that it is designed for graduates from any discipline with a strong interest in the foundations of accounting and finance who wish to acquire analytical skills, both numerical and discursive, to pursue a career in the financial sector. You do not need to have studied in this discipline, but we recommend that students have a basic knowledge and understanding of accounting and/or business studies to make the most of this programme. The programme also caters for those who seek a general career in business or public service but who want to know more about how the accounting and finance sector operates and how it influences stakeholders, including managers, providers of finance and government. What you'll study You will develop key professional and research skills, as well as an understanding of ethical business practice. You will also undertake a final research project, which can be either a dissertation or a business-based project. Issues in Accounting and Accountability Foundations of Finance This module offers an understanding of key financial theories and practices: their strengths and weaknesses, and their usefulness in financial decision making. Key topics include financial performance analysis; risk and return; capital budgeting and management; and the time value of money. Financial Markets This module aims to give you an understanding of the principles of modern financial markets and instruments. You'll learn to apply these concepts by following and interpreting current affairs in the financial markets. Corporate Financial Management This module introduces you to the theory and practice of corporate finance, focusing on the effects of investment and financing decisions on firm value. You'll also develop an understanding of corporate financial management policies. Accounting, Organisations and Control Develop your understanding of organisational accounting and control processes and their impacts on businesses, governments and society. You'll study performance evaluations as well as management control and accounting systems and techniques, including their changes, issues and economic contexts. Entry requirements The programme is designed for graduates from any discipline with a strong interest in the foundations of accounting and finance. However, we do recommend that you have a basic knowledge and understanding of this area of business studies. You will have a minimum of a 2:2 Honours degree or international equivalent, one academic reference and a good command of English. International students If you require a Tier 4 student visa to study or if your first language is not English you will be required to provide acceptable evidence of your English language proficiency level.
