Dr Qin Xiao

Dr Qin Xiao is a financial economist and Senior Lecturer in Finance at Hull University Business School, University of Hull. She is a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA) and has more than twenty years of teaching and research experience, including earlier appointments at the University of Aberdeen and Nanyang Technological University.

Her research covers credit risk and securitisation, corporate transparency and governance, and the use of artificial intelligence in education. Current work examines credit risk in China's asset-backed securities market, ESG disclosure and executive pay, and why firms under similar pressure recover or decline. Her earlier work spans asset pricing, housing markets, corporate innovation and the role of commodity markets in financial instability. Her work has appeared in journals including the International Journal of Finance & Economics, the International Review of Financial Analysis, and Urban Studies.

She is Principal Investigator of the Humanoid AI Tutor and ScaffoldAI projects. These study whether AI tutoring builds learners' independence or substitutes for it, and she is developing them through Innovate UK ICURe.

She has supervised several PhD projects and directed MSc programmes in Finance and Accounting. She also co-directed the Centre for Economic and Financial Policy and Accountability, where she led knowledge exchange and doctoral training. She has been a member of the ESRC Peer Review College since 2024 and reviews for journals and funding bodies.
