Dr Karin Cooper

Karin is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work. She has worked at the University of Hull since 2011, her current research focuses on the use of participatory theatre techniques in the education of social workers and other professionals in training. Karin has held a number of leadership roles within the University; Interim Co-Head of School of Psychology and Social Work and Professional Lead for Social Work; Head of Department Psychological Health, Wellbeing and Social Work and Subject Group Head Psychological Health, Wellbeing and Social Work.

She has also conducted research into the experiences of kinship carers' own children, and she is a peer reviewer for the British Journal of Social Work and the DARTE programme. Karin has worked in partnership on international projects in East Africa with NGOs from Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Academics from Tanzania. She has also worked with UK and international colleagues in Rwanda. Karin is a member of the Ubuntu Partnership a group of UK and East African Academics and NGOs whose work on decolonising partnerships been disseminated Globally. She is a committee member of JUSWA International Committee.

Karin qualified as a social worker at the University of Hull in 2002. Her background is in child protection and fostering with expertise in the area of family and friend care.
