About James Ekpa
I am a Research Assistant at the Centre of Excellence for Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Modelling (DAIM) at the University of Hull. I also serve as a Research Assistant within the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Research (CAMHR), where I support the NARA Network hosted by CAMHR.
Across both roles, I specialise in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of artificial intelligence solutions that support healthcare research. My work focuses on translating cutting-edge AI methods into clinically relevant tools that enhance disease diagnosis, risk prediction, evidence-based decision-making and network collaboration.
In addition to my research expertise, I have experience in project management, leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver AI-driven solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. I have coordinated cross-functional teams comprising AI engineers, software developers, UX/UI designers, and web developers to design, develop, and implement intelligent platforms that address complex Medical, Legal, and Regulatory (MLR) compliance challenges.
My responsibilities included project planning, stakeholder coordination, task prioritisation, and ensuring effective collaboration across technical and non-technical teams. I managed project timelines, monitored progress against key milestones, and ensured that deliverables were completed on schedule while maintaining high standards of quality. This experience has strengthened my ability to bridge the gap between research, technology development, and real-world implementation, ensuring AI solutions are both technically robust and aligned with business and regulatory requirements.
