About Dr Debarati Chakraborty
Dr Debarati Chakraborty earned her PhD and completed her postdoctoral research at the Centre for Soft Computing Research, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, India, in 2017 and 2019, respectively. She subsequently served as a faculty member at IIT Jodhpur and VIT-AP University in India for five years and currently holds the position of Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Hull, UK. Her research interests encompass a broad range of areas within artificial intelligence, including machine learning, generative AI, ethical AI, rough sets, granular computing, video processing, multimodal AI, reinforcement learning, uncertainty modelling, deep learning, robot vision, and edge AI. She has published more than fifteen articles in international journals, including IEEE Transactions, as well as several international conference papers and an authored book. Dr Chakraborty was elected as a member of the European Academy of Engineering (EAE) in 2026 and was awarded the prestigious Senior Research Fellowship by the National Academy of Artificial Intelligence (NAAI), USA, in 2025. She also received Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, UK, in 2025 and the Young Scientist Award from the Indian Science Congress Association in 2012. In addition to her research achievements, she has supervised or is currently supervising five PhD researchers and more than ten master’s theses. She has several years of teaching experience, during which she has led and delivered a wide range of courses in artificial intelligence and machine learning. She has also actively mentored students in research across multiple institutions, fostering a strong culture of academic inquiry, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation.
