Summary

Chris Westoby is the MA Creative Writing (Online) Programme Director. His PhD was a narrative study of mental health in young adulthood, resulting in the publication of his debut nonfiction book, ‘The Fear Talking’. His creative work demonstrates the profound impact mental health has upon an individual and their surrounding family, friends and beyond. It explores the ethics of life writing and how it may be safely approached by an author.

His research and knowledge exchange projects promote narrative’s power as a means to inform, raise awareness and provide a voice to the unheard and underrepresented. His research interests include writing mental health, social media use in the aftermath of a death by suspected suicide, gendered barriers in higher education institutions, living in impoverished communities and working conditions in UK prisons.
