About Charlotte Shevchenko Knight

Charlotte Shevchenko Knight is an academic and multi-award-winning author. Her debut poetry collection 'Food for the Dead', which contextualises the current war in Ukraine within a wider historical background, was published by Jonathan Cape in 2024. It won an Eric Gregory Award, a Somerset Maugham Award, and the Laurel Prize for Best First Collection. Shevchenko Knight has performed her work to wide-ranging and international audiences, with highlights including taking the stage at the London Southbank Centre, curating her own guest episode of BBC Poetry Please, and in Nanjing, China as part of her role as a UNESCO Manchester City Poet. She is currently working on a book of personal essays titled The Inexpressible which explores experimental approaches to writing about anorexia and the self.
