Post-16 talks and workshops

Our team offers a range of post-16 talks, workshops and presentations tailored to sixth forms and colleges.

The talks and workshops are organised into three themes that align with the key stages of the student journey.

Discovery

For students exploring their options, these sessions introduce the benefits of university, how to choose a course and institution, and what to expect from student life.

Application

These sessions offer step-by-step guidance through the university application process - including UCAS applications, writing personal statements and preparing for interviews.

Post-application

Once students have applied, these sessions help them prepare for what’s next. Topics include student finance, budgeting, making the most of Applicant Days.

Parents and carers

Parents and carers play a vital role in students' decision-making about higher education. Our dedicated sessions are designed to inform and reassure so that they can offer the right support at home.

Sessions can be delivered virtually or in person - including evenings to suit busy schedules

Available sessions include:

Parents’ Information Evening

An overview of the university journey, what to expect, and how to support a child through the process.

Student Finance for Parents and Carers

A clear and practical session breaking down tuition fees, loans, and repayments.

If you're planning a parents’ event or would like us to contribute to an existing session, please get in touch - we’ll work with you to deliver a session that fits your needs.

Pre-16 students (years 7-11)

For younger pupils, we offer pre-recorded versions of our Why University? talk - designed for delivery in the classroom.

Sessions are tailored to KS3 or KS4 pupils and focus on the journey from high school to university, introducing students to university life, entry requirements, courses and the difference between school and university.

Planning and booking your sessions

We know the school year is busy - that’s why we offer two easy ways to plan your activities with us.

Annual Planning Meetings

To help you map out activity across the year, we invite your school or college’s main contact to book an Annual Planning Meeting with your regional representative. These take place at the end of the summer term or early in the autumn term, and are a great way to:

· Discuss your students’ needs

· Identify the most relevant sessions and delivery formats

· Reserve preferred dates in advance

Flexible Requests Throughout the Year

We understand plans can change. That’s why all our talks and workshops are also available to book on request throughout the year.

To request a session or discuss options, simply contact your regional representative or email SCL@hull.ac.uk
