Writing Your Personal Statement

What is this session about?
This is an essential and highly valuable session.
Writing a personal statement can feel daunting. Many students know what they want to say, but struggle with how to say it - or where to start. Confidence is often a key barrier. This session is here to help.
Students will be guided through the key elements of writing a compelling personal statement. The session includes advice from one of our current student ambassadors, who will share their own experience and top tips.
This session is still useful if you have any students who may not be considering university. The skills and techniques covered are also useful for writing job applications and preparing for future opportunities.
What will students learn?
- Use the ABCs of writing a personal statement:
- A = Activity: Describe something they have achieved
- B = Benefit: Explain what they learned from the experience
- C = Career: Show how this experience relates to or supports their future goals
- Put their information into context by learning how their content can help them secure a place on a course or at least reach the interview stage
- Draft their personal statement and share it with friends, teachers, or parents for proofreading and feedback
Who is the session suitable for?
