How to Apply: International

Undergraduate application guide

Start your journey to an undergraduate degree at Hull. Learn how to apply, meet our entry requirements, accept your offer, and secure your visa.

Your journey to the University of Hull starts here

International students can either apply directly to us or through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service).

Route 1: Apply directly

If the University of Hull is your top choice, you can apply directly to us through one of our approved agents in your country. You can find a list of our agents on your country page.

Route 2: Apply through UCAS

If you would like to apply to more than one university, you need to apply via UCAS. Some schools, advisers, counsellors, and agents are registered as UCAS centres and can help you with your application or submit your UCAS application on your behalf.

1

Check the entry requirements

Visit your country page to find the entry requirements for your country. Entry requirements vary by course, so make sure you check your course page too.

English language requirements:

International students may need to take one of our recognised English Language Tests or provide other proof of English proficiency. Check our English language requirements. If you do not meet the requirements, you may receive an offer on the condition you complete one of our pre-sessional English courses.

2

Submit your application

Register in the UCAS Hub and complete the registration questions. You can then start your application.

A UCAS application has six sections: Personal details, choices, education, employment, personal statement, and reference.

Find out more on the UCAS Website.

Applying with an agent

Want support with your application? Our network of Education Agents can help you apply directly to the university - from choosing a course to applying for a visa. Learn more about how an agent can help and how to find one on your country page.

Once your agent has submitted your application, you will receive an email with login details for your MyHull student portal, where you can track and manage your application.

Top application tips

Read our guide on how to write your personal statement. Your personal statement is an important part of the application process and an opportunity to talk about yourself and your passions, outside of your grades.

Use all available support. Some schools, advisers, or agents are registered as UCAS centres, and can support you with your application. Speak with your school counsellor or visit your country page to find details of our approved agents.

Speak with your referee in advance to make sure they understand your goals, chosen courses, and relevant achievements when writing your UCAS application.

3

Receiving your offers

Once you have applied, you may be made an offer to study with us.

If you have applied through UCAS, you can track your offers in your UCAS account. If you have applied directly through an approved agent, you can track your application in your MyHull student portal.

There are two types of offers. If you receive a conditional offer, you must meet certain conditions before your place will be confirmed (for example, you are awaiting exam results). If you receive an unconditional offer, you have already met all of our entry requirements and are guaranteed a place.

4

Accept your offer

Once you have all of your offers, you can choose which ones you'd like to accept.

There are two types of acceptance. You can accept one offer as a firm choice - this is your first choice. You may also be able to accept one additional offer as an insurance choice. If your firm acceptance is a conditional offer, you can choose an insurance choice as a back-up in case you do not meet the requirements of your firm choice.

If you have applied through UCAS, you can accept or reject in your UCAS account. If you have applied directly through an approved agent, you can accept your offer in your MyHull student portal.

ATAS Certificates

Some science or technology programmes may require an Academic Transcript Approval Scheme (ATAS)  certificate. This is a requirement of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Your offer letter will confirm if this applies to you.

5

Pay your tuition fee deposit

Once you have accepted your offer, you will need to pay a tuition fee deposit to secure your place before your Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) can be issued to you (see the next step). The deposit is deducted from the total cost of your tuition fees. Read our full guide to tuition fee deposits

Applicants who are sponsored, have a full-fee bursary/scholarship or have completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Hull are exempt from paying a deposit.

6

Receive your CAS and apply for your Student Visa

Once you have met all the conditions of your offer and paid your deposit, we will issue your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). You will need this to apply for your student visa.

To apply for your visa, you will also need your passport and may need to provide additional documents. You will pay an application fee and the healthcare surcharge, which gives you access to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).
