Dr Zeeshan Ali

I am a Lecturer in Quantitative Criminology in the School of Criminology, Politics and Law at the University of Hull. I hold a PhD in Statistics from the University of Warwick.

My research develops statistical methods for improving how social outcomes are measured and how public interventions are evaluated, with current applications in crime and justice, elections, public health and public policy. Although my research spans several substantive areas, these projects are connected by a common methodological aim: developing rigorous approaches to measurement and evaluation that strengthen quantitative evidence for decision-making and policy.

Before joining the University of Hull in 2023, I completed a PhD in Statistics at the University of Warwick as a Chancellor's International Scholar. During my doctoral studies, I also taught undergraduate Statistics in the Department of Statistics and postgraduate Quantitative Methods at Warwick Business School. Between 2021 and 2022, I served on the Committee of the Royal Statistical Society West Midlands Local Group.

Prior to moving to the UK, I taught Statistics for five years at Government College University Lahore. I graduated with a Gold Medal in BSc (Honours) Statistics and completed an MPhil in Statistics with distinction at the same institution. I subsequently ranked first in the Punjab Public Service Commission examination for Lecturer in Statistics before joining the Higher Education Department of the Government of Punjab, Pakistan.
