Gill Hodgson

Gill is a former Police Constable and Detective Constable with 12 years’ policing experience, now a Lecturer in Professional Policing at the University of Hull. She holds a Master’s in Criminology, is a Fellow of the HEA, and researches police recruitment, roads policing, transparency, governance, criminal justice, and areas of criminal, tort, and contract law.

About Gill Hodgson

Following graduation with a Law Degree in 1996 Gill joined Hertfordshire Constabulary where she spent 12 years in a varied policing career as a PC and DC in Hertfordshire and later Lincolnshire Police. Gill has extensive experience in policing, especially in the areas of front line policing and CID. During this time Gill returned to Middlesex University to complete a Masters degree in Criminology.

Gill is currently a Lecturer in Professional Policing here at the University of Hull, as module lead for various subjects of the BSc Professional Policing Degree.

Gill has previously worked as a Senior Lecturer in Criminology, Law and Professional Policing at the University or Hertfordshire (2024-25) Lecturer in Professional Policing at the University of Hull (2023-24) and at Lincoln College (accredited Lecturer of the University of Derby 2020-2023) delivering both HE and FE modules relating to the BA Professional Policing Degree and BTEC Level 2 & 3 provision Uniformed Protective Services.

Gill has achieved Fellowship of the HEA (Advance HE).

Gill's academic interests include Recruitment and Retention of Police Officers in the UK, Policing the Roads, Police Transparency, Governance and Accountability, and Criminal Justice. Gill's interests also include LLB Criminal Law, Tort & Contract Law.
