Postdoctoral Researcher in Fibre Optic Sensors
Dr. Herath is a postdoctoral researcher working under the core research program of the Supergen Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Hub. He is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with over a decade of experience in various academic positions. His expertise spans multiple disciplines such as Polymer Composites, Deployable Space Structures, Optical Fibre Sensing, Design and Manufacturing, Smart Materials and Structural Health Monitoring. His current research aims to understand the loading conditions of the ORE structures and optimize their performance and lifetime.
He has a BSc Engineering in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Manufacturing Systems Engineering. In 2020 he obtained his PhD from the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. He is a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in the UK.
Currently, he is holding the position of Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. Before joining the University of Hull, he served as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Engineering Technology at Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, and he was a Lecturer at the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. He has secured and managed research grants both independently and collaboratively. Throughout his academic journey, he has consistently engaged in collaborative teamwork across diverse roles and responsibilities.
