Dr Ellen Kujawa

Dr Ellen Kujawa is a Coastal Change Research Fellow at the Energy and Environment Institute and an environmental political geographer whose research examines how knowledge, institutions, and political power shape responses to environmental risk. She works on Changing Coasts East Riding, collaborating with East Riding of Yorkshire Council and other project partners on research on coastal erosion, adaptation, and uncertain futures.

Her wider research is on disaster governance, climate adaptation, and the politics of scientific knowledge. She completed her PhD in Geography at the University of Cambridge, where she investigated the geopolitics of hurricane knowledge across the Caribbean and the United States, examining how political relationships and uneven vulnerability shape the value and use of scientific knowledge. Her research uses qualitative and mixed methods, including elite interviews, policy and archival analysis, and statistical analysis of large datasets.
