The Challenge
The Northern region of England experiences the highest rates of prevalence for alcohol dependence, deaths from drug misuse and smoking attributable mortality. Following the publication of the Independent Review of Drugs, increasing the impact of services through adoption of applied research has become an urgent public health priority.
The Approach
A clinical-academic alliance hosted by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Research (CAMHR) and funded by NIHR Regional Research Delivery Network to support:
- An increase in the leadership and participation in public health and clinical applied addiction research across the Northern Region of England
- Promote research applications led by members of NARA
- Provide opportunities to develop early- and mid-career researchers and support further embedded research opportunities
- Encourage the adoption of evidence-based commissioning and evaluation of addiction service
- Facilitate evidence into practice through clinical engagement
This approach will be supported by artificial intelligence (AI) to identify research funding opportunities related to addiction.
