About this award

Sustainability today is more important than ever before. The Sustainability Champion Scholarship, awarded by Hull University Business School, will allow one student to start an Executive MBA degree at the University of Hull in September 2024. The scholarship place will contribute 50% towards the overall Executive MBA tuition fees. We are looking for exceptional candidates who can demonstrate outstanding ‘Sustainability’ achievements so far in their career and ideas for the future.

Awards are available for women in leadership, sustainability champions, entrepreneurial SME achievers, applicants that have made outstanding career advancements and inspiring leaders.

How to apply

Candidates must submit to exec-education@hull.ac.uk either a 1,000-word proposal or a 5-10 minute video recording outlining:

- Why you should be awarded this scholarship?
- How you demonstrate your commitment to sustainable business practice and responsible leadership, and how this aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Judging panel

Representatives from our MBA Global Advisory Board (external partners, industry leaders and Alumni of Hull University) and MBA Programme Team

Up to ten finalists will be shortlisted from all entries received by the deadline of 30 June 2024.

Eligibility

This scholarship is for UK students and is in recognition that sustainability and achieving a fairer, brighter and net carbon future is vital. We welcome entries from those who can demonstrate both depth and breadth of previous work experience, along with academic excellence in leading sustainable and social business causes, as well as inspiring colleagues to develop and succeed in becoming sustainable business leaders of the future. Individuals can only apply to one Executive MBA scholarship.

Individuals do not need to apply for the Hull Executive MBA before submitting an application for this scholarship, but are expected to check that they qualify for entry on to the programme.

Scholarship criteria

We are looking for exceptional candidates who can demonstrate they are a sustainable leader and champion. The judging panel will assess:

The degree to which the achievement/activities are significant and breaks boundaries.
Quality, creativity, and persuasiveness of the Sustainable Champion story presented.
Demonstration of being an inspiring role model figure in their sector.
Degree of thinking outside boundaries and (systematic) exploration and generation of innovative ideas/ways or methodologies.
Display of pro-active attitude and initiative.
We want submissions which make us think differently - challenge the status quo and demonstrate a real understanding of the dilemmas faced in an ever-changing world.

It is important that participants draw not only on data, research, and other evidence to support their arguments but also their own personal experience, which could include examples of initiatives they have worked on, or are in the process of designing.
