Summer opportunities
Jet off on an international adventure, expand your horizons and ignite your future by spending a summer abroad during your time at Hull.

What you can do
Open up a world of opportunity by choosing a summer experience that suits you.
They last for between two and 12 weeks and don’t have to be linked to your area of study if you don’t wish, so you’re free to choose between career-boosting trips or explore other opportunities that will take your student experience to new levels.
Many opportunities are also eligible for financial support to help turn your international dreams into a reality.
Summer schools
Study with one of our reputable partner universities overseas with a choice of subject-based, language and culture courses. Summer Schools are a great opportunity to study your subject area from a different perspective or to learn about something completely new.
International volunteering
Experience new cultures whilst giving back to the local community with international volunteering. We work with a small number of reputable organisations that offer quality, high-impact volunteering projects. Whether you want to travel in a group or fly solo – we've got something for you.
Study tour
Each year a group of students from Hull travel the world on a two to four-week overseas experience. You’ll explore exciting destinations and discover different societies as part of a bespoke programme that also includes interdisciplinary study sessions, lectures, cultural activities and more.
Why you should consider a summer opportunity
Summer abroad programmes offer a unique chance to step outside the everyday, explore new horizons, and experience personal growth in ways that stay with you for life.
Where can you go?
Choose from one of our partner universities around the world for an academic and cultural experience of a lifetime.
Or opt for a more community-based or volunteering project to expand your horizons and your circle of friends.
We work with organisations across Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe and the USA including Camp America, Camp Canada, Think Pacific, Travelteer, Operation Wallacea, Play Action International, and United Through Sport – so there are options for everybody
The highlight of my course so far was visiting Aarhus University for one month during the summer. I loved visiting this part of Denmark and met many lovely people who have become some of my closest friends ever since!Clara Wisenfeld Paine

Get support and funding
Our Placement and Study Abroad Team works with students to explore international opportunities.
They’ll help you from application to return, supporting everything from pre-departure briefings to support while you’re abroad.
The team can also help with applications for financial help to support your opportunities overseas. Our students have two main sources of possible funding, and the team will help to identify your eligibility.
Turing Scholarship Fund
Named in honour of the visionary mathematician Alan Turing, the Turing Fund provides financial support to those students wishing to participate in an international experience.
It’s open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from all fields of study. Grant amounts are based on the location you are travelling to, your personal circumstances and the length of your programme, with additional funding available for students from a disadvantaged background.
A typical level of funding for a summer abroad would be £250 to £1,500 for qualifying students.
Ann Watson’s Trust
Our Careers Service has partnered with Ann Watson’s Trust to provide additional support to local students.
One of the oldest charities in Hull with a history spanning over 300 years, it allows you to apply for funding to support your future career development and aspirations.
Funds can be used to support a variety of opportunities to enhance your career development with eligible students able to apply for up to £1,000.
