About this course

The NEBOSH National Diploma is a well-recognised health and safety qualification designed to meet the needs of the modern workplace.

It helps in the development of professional competence and enables you and your organisation to make informed decisions to manage risk and meet your business objectives and legal obligations.

Enrolling on the diploma means you'll also be enrolled on the four-year BSc in Safety and Environmental Management (with NEBOSH). You can leave after getting the diploma if you want – or you could continue studying for the BSc qualification to add it to your CV. 

So you could stop after obtaining the NEBOSH diploma – or continue your studies and add the BSc qualification to your CV too.

Our strong industry links have given our students access to projects with AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Reckitt, Schlumberger and Unilever. The Diploma also meets the academic requirements for graduate membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

  • Know – workplace health and safety principles (UK)

    This module follows the NEBOSH National Diploma Unit ND1 syllabus. Topics covered include principles of risk management including identifying hazards, risk assessment and developing a risk management strategy. Developing a health and safety policy strategy. Principles of health and safety law, guidance and best practice; and how the health and safety professional can contribute to health and safety legal actions. Promoting a positive health and safety culture.  Measuring health and safety performance.

  • Do – controlling workplace safety issues (UK) - 1

    This module follows the NEBOSH National Diploma Unit ND3 syllabus. Topics covered include general workplace issues: principles of fire and explosion, workplace fire risk assessment, storage handling and processing of dangerous substances, work equipment, pressure systems, mechanical handling, electrical safety and safety in construction and demolition, confined space working and management, workplace transport issues and driving for work risk management.

  • Do – controlling workplace safety issues (UK) - 2

    This module follows the NEBOSH National Diploma Unit ND2 syllabus. Topics covered include General aspects of occupational health and hygiene, principles of toxicology and epidemiology, evaluating risk from hazardous substances and biological agents, preventive and protective measures concerning hazardous substances and biological agents, noise and vibration, ionising and non-ionising radiation, mental ill-health and musculoskeletal issues.

  • Application of health and safety management in the workplace

    A workplace-based assignment drawing upon knowledge and understanding of material in Units ND1, ND2 and ND3 and applying this in a real workplace situation. It comprises a critical analysis of how health and safety is managed in a workplace leading to a set of justified, proportionate recommendations to improve performance.
