Dr Harry Catherall

Harry is a marine ecologist and Post-Doctoral Research Assistant specialising in the ecology, restoration and carbon dynamics of coastal marine ecosystems. His research spans kelp forests, seagrass meadows, intertidal habitats and fish ecology with a particular focus on understanding ecosystem structure, carbon storage and the development of practical tools to support habitat restoration and climate mitigation.

Harry completed his PhD in Marine Science at Newcastle University, where he investigated the long-term impacts of historic coal mining pollution on kelp forest ecosystems along the northeast coast of England. His work combined field ecology, scientific diving, molecular biology and geochemical analysis to understand how human activities influence marine biodiversity and ecosystem functioning.
