Patient and Public Involvement

Involve Hull is a network of patients, carers and members of the public who help shape health and care research at the University of Hull. We set up Involve Hull in 2019 with funding from Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Our original aim was to give patients, carers and people who use cancer services a voice in our cancer research. Our network has grown to include people from across the UK with many different backgrounds and experiences of health and care. Joining the network is your chance to influence what we do and how we do it.
By getting involved, you can have your say about:
You can choose which projects you work with. As a volunteer, the amount of time that you contribute is up to you.
You can read more about what it’s like to be a member of our network in our comic book, The making of Involve Hull: our riverside story.

We are looking for people who:
Live with a long term health condition
Look after a loved one who needs care
Use local health and care services
We research a wide range of topics and health conditions. We specialise in research about:
We welcome people with experience of these conditions and types of care.
Involve Hull is based within the Institute for Clinical Applied Health Research. We collaborate with these research groups:
Your experience of your own health condition, or of caring for a loved one, is unique. You bring this knowledge as a patient, carer or family member to the research process. You do not need to know how research works.
Researchers know about different health conditions, and how to treat them. But most will not have lived through it. Sharing your experiences and views will fill these gaps in our understanding. You can help us to focus on what really matters to people.
This is the name we use for involving members of the public in research. It means an active partnership between members of the public and researchers in the research process. It is not about the participation of people as the ‘subjects’ of research. Public involvement means doing research with or by the public, rather than to, about or for the public.
