Cultures of Incarceration Centre

Digital Book Club for Readers and Writers

Our fully digital educational outreach programme is aiming to nurture and facilitate reading for pleasure and creative writing for those in prison.

Led by bestselling author and creative writing lecturer Dr Caroline Cauchi, and CIC Co-Director Dr Josephine Metcalf, this book club is a fully digital outreach programme designed to support reading for people in prison.

The project aims to support literacy and rehabilitation outcomes for incarcerated individuals through the development and implementation of digital “book group style” reading and writing groups that can be completed on laptops in cell.

The Book Club is run in conjunction with Coracle Ltd and is available in 90 prisons across the UK.

Creative writing produced by members of the book club will be featured on the Cultures of Incarceration writing corner.
