What is a students’ union?

When you join Hull, you automatically become a member of Hull University Students’ Union (HUSU).

HUSU is here to ensure you feel part of the student community and help you look forward to a bright future. We do this by representing your academic interests and giving you a voice to speak out about the issues that matter to you most.

Getting involved in HUSU is the best way to make friends, try new things, find your people and become part of something bigger.

For students, by students

HUSU is independent from the University. It’s led by a team of elected full- and part-time Student Leaders who work to represent students’ views and improve University life for all. Students from any year and studying at any level can run for a Student Leader role.

Meet new people, become old friends

Playing sports, joining a society or volunteering are the best ways to find your people. Choose from 50+ sports clubs and 60+ societies, volunteer for good causes, or get involved in student media. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, we’ll help you start your own student group.

Eat, drink, shop

Student Central is home to our award-winning nightclub and live music venue, which has hosted big names like Paul Heaton, Belle & Sebastian, Scouting for Girls, Kate Tempest, James Bay and Self Esteem.

You can enjoy food, drink and live sport at ‘Spoons on campus, shop at our SPAR convenience store, and use one of our shared social spaces to relax between lectures.

Be supported

HUSU’s Advice Centre is a free, independent and impartial service that offers support and representation on issues that can affect students, such as money, housing and academic issues.

Freshers Hull

Freshers Hull offers a diverse range of activities and events for all to welcome you to campus and help you settle into university life.

There’ll be a packed programme of events for you to get involved in, helping you to discover all the fantastic opportunities HUSU has to offer, make new friends, connect with your peers and get to know the campus and surrounding area.

Where can I find HUSU on campus?

You can’t miss us. We’re based in the Student Central building, but we run activities right across campus. You’ll find Student Central just across from the DAIM building and next door to the Gulbenkian theatre.
