I am estranged from my parents. How do I apply for Student Finance?

Students under the age of 25 are normally considered to be ‘dependent’ on their parents for Student Finance purposes, and it is expected that their parents will declare their household income for students to be means tested.

If you’re under 25 and have not had contact with your parents for over a year, you can apply to be assessed as independent by Student Finance England. You’ll need to provide evidence of your circumstances with your application.
