Our approach really sets us apart…

We take a unique approach to teaching at Hull University Business School. One that teaches you business by actually doing business.

Through our established relationships with a range of national and regional organisations you get to learn through practical experiences – placements, internships, live business projects, a variety of networking activities – all included as part of your degree.

This prepares our students for successful graduate careers. And provides multiple opportunities to interact with potential future employers even before you graduate.

We call this approach ‘Authentic Business Learning’ (ABL).

Peter Andrews, Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Hull University Business School, explains:

“At Hull University Business School, we approach learning and teaching in a very different way. We call that approach ‘Authentic Business Learning’. For students, this means that they’re doing real projects with real organisations. Giving them experiences to apply the theories that they’re learning to real business situations – not working on fictitious case studies.

“Right from their first year, they’re working on projects with brands that they know. They’re getting the skills and experience they need for future roles – developing projects and new ideas and presenting them back to the organisations.

“We build our students as future business professionals from day one.”

Charlotte Morgan, a Marketing student at Hull University Business School, experienced ABL in action, working on a live business project with online car retailer Cinch.

Charlotte said: “We had the opportunity to present our recommendations and solutions directly to a group of Cinch managers. This was following a report that we did for the company as part of our Marketing Analytics module, on how they could increase their online car sales through their website. Projects like this benefit students as it helps prepare us for our future careers. We get the real-life experience that you would in the workplace. So instead of just writing a report then forgetting about it, you get to pursue something that you might actually do in the future.”

It's an approach that Hull University Business School graduate, Jake Browne credits with helping him start his career as a Digital Marketing Executive at performance marketing specialists Summit Media.

Jake explains: “My experience at the Business School definitely helped me start my career in the digital marketing industry and at Summit Media.

“Working on live business projects were some of the best experiences my degree gave me. These gave me a real-world sense of business. It’s one of the reasons I chose the University."

“I was first introduced to Summit through the Business School when I was studying the Digital Marketing module. The module was my favourite by far, it was absolutely fantastic, and the reason why I sought a career in digital marketing. Summit delivered a lecture as part of the course; I was really impressed with them and spoke to my course lecturer afterwards to find out more about them.

“By completing the live business projects, I got to increase my network and get to know industry more – it’s one of the main reasons I’m here working at Summit Media today.”

Business Class

Our double international accreditations from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) means you’ll also be learning in a Business School that’s part of an exclusive club – only around 2% of the world’s 13,000 plus business programmes hold both AMBA and AACSB accreditations.

Our AACSB accreditation demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement and advancing the highest-quality degrees. It also shows our focus on creating impactful leaders; and our dedication to developing the talent and skills that businesses are looking to hire today and in the future.

Our AMBA accreditation is recognised as a gold standard for MBAs by Business Schools and employers across the world – and represents the highest standard of achievement in our postgraduate executive business education.

Professionalism certified

One of the extra benefits of a Hull University Business School degree is that many of them have industry accreditation.

Which means many of our students graduate with professional accreditation or membership of professional bodies, and/or exemptions from professional examinations. Giving you a head start in your chosen career.

Our accreditations include those from a range of professional bodies and often include added extras such as access to resources and networking events.

Developing small businesses – and entrepreneurial spirit

We’re also proudly accredited by the Small Business Charter (SBC) – an accolade given to world-class business schools that play an effective role in supporting small businesses, local economies and student entrepreneurship.

We help small businesses grow while encouraging our students’ entrepreneurial skills. Meaning you could link with small businesses through live company projects as part of your course. Or perhaps work with an SME – to help identify areas of growth and talent – through our Small Business Clinic.
