Study support from day one
We offer expert academic support from your very first day – helping you build confidence, develop skills, and succeed in your studies.

How we help you succeed
We’re here to help you grow academically and personally – whatever your academic background or experience.
From one-to-one advice to skills workshops and flexible learning tools, you’ll have everything you need to succeed in your studies. At the University of Hull, we don’t just teach – we support, guide, and empower you to do your best.

One-to-one guidance from your personal academic supervisor
Every student gets a personal academic supervisor – your go-to person for academic advice, feedback, and pastoral support. They’ll help you become an independent learner, review your progress, and guide you through any challenges, including non-academic issues like finances or housing.
Build your academic and digital skills
Our dedicated Skills Team is here to help you build the academic confidence and capability you need to achieve your potential.
Support is available on campus and online with academic writing, critical thinking, digital literacy, referencing, and more. Get tailored advice through 1:1 appointments, join interactive workshops, or learn at your own pace with online guides and video tutorials.
We’ll help you master the skills that matter.
Learn with other students
PASS (Peer-Assisted Student Success) is an internationally recognised scheme where students support each other through collaborative learning. Join relaxed, friendly study sessions led by trained student facilitators. Tackle tricky topics together, grow your confidence, and feel more connected.
Improve your academic writing
Our Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow offers free, confidential one-to-one sessions to help improve your writing skills, from planning essays and dissertations to clarifying your ideas and refining grammar. Sessions are 50 minutes long and mostly held on campus in the Brynmor Jones Library.
International students
We offer tailored English language support to help you adapt to life as a UK student.
If you’ve received an offer but don’t yet meet our English language requirements, you can join a six or 10-week online pre-sessional English course. The course length depends on your current level and your chosen programme.
Student wellbeing support
When you join the University of Hull, you’ll become part of our friendly and supportive community. We offer tailored support for neurodivergent students, students with disabilities and those with mental health conditions or learning differences.
We’ll work alongside you to address any barriers to learning and make sure that you have the right adjustments in place to make learning accessible.
