“I chose to study Marketing as I knew it was something I would enjoy, plus it also offered many different career options that I could choose from when I finished. I wanted to make sure I had lots of possibilities when I left university. I also knew Hull had a great Business School!

“My undergraduate degree gave me a fully comprehensive overview of marketing. It touched so many different topics such as digital marketing and social media, international marketing, services marketing, and even psychology within consumer and business buyer behaviour. My postgraduate built upon that understanding and developed my knowledge and skills in new areas such as PR which was really interesting. It helped broaden my business perspective as it focused on topics like crisis communications, which showed how companies need to market themselves as well as their products and services.

“Working on live business projects with big brands in my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees was a highlight. They gave me the chance to be creative and plan a marketing strategy from start to finish. I worked on projects for Young’s Seafood, Warner’s Distillery, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, local companies like Hull BID and William’s Den and North Yorkshire-based charity Rural Arts. The projects allowed us to apply theory to real-life businesses scenarios. Really unique opportunities.

“Studying at the University of Hull opened up opportunities that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. I received support from the University’s careers team Student Futures which helped me get my first graduate job. This was actually within the University’s marketing department – a role that I loved! The University also opened the door for my current role in digital marketing – I was first introduced to the company I work for now through my undergraduate degree. Summit presented a guest lecture as part of my course and I later applied to work for them.

“Digital is a rapidly growing field within marketing, and I wanted to jump on that. I knew I could build a skillset that would be in demand throughout my career. I love the people I work with and I’m learning new things every day.”
