BSc Computer Science

Heya! It’s already been a month and a bit since I returned to the University of Hull and with a new year, and in my case final year, I thought that I would venture out into more extra-curricular activities.

My name is Ethan, I’m studying BSc Computer Science and have been excited to rejoin classes with students I hadn’t seen over the summer.

So far, this trimester I have been studying new areas of my discipline, such as building secure server infrastructure, and computational science, as well as beginning to prepare my dissertation.

During Freshers’ Fair I joined several “Give It a Go” sessions including Badminton, Ski & Snowboard and Ice Skating, but ultimately settled into my new society for Skiing, HUSSKI. Their session took us to XSCAPE in Castleford (an indoor skiing centre) for two hours of free skiing. You can see me in the picture with my bright green salopettes.

I’ve had some good nights out at Asylum, and next week I will be attending Bongo’s Bingo – a bingo meets neon rave event which can only be described as organised chaos. As it will be Halloween, all I have to do now is source a costume – wish me luck!

Back at the University, I also joined an extracurricular language course in Japanese to give me the skills to travel to Japan which I hope to do soon. I am really enjoying the course so far and would recommend anyone to dive into a new society or activity – forge ahead with a Give It a Go attitude, you just might find something new!

Finally, I got to revisit Hull Fair which is always a fun evening to spend with friends, going on the rides and having a walk around in the ambience as well as the Yorkshire Pudding Wraps (seriously, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it) and of course crêpes.

That’s all happened within the first month here, and with that I’m looking forward to the next, looking towards new exciting opportunities which never seem to dwindle over here in Hull. Thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of the university year!
