The School of Arts and Humanities has taught English Literature, History and Philosophy since 1928, and is home to the UK’s 3rd oldest Drama department. We teach and research Creative Writing, Film, Game and Graphic Design, Media, and Music.
Researchers in the School of Education seek social and educational change to enhance fairness, equity, and social justice. We teach Education, Teaching and Childhood Studies, including SENDI, TESOL and Youth and Community Work.
The School of Criminology, Politics and Law has taught Law since 1927. We were among the first in the UK to offer Criminology degrees over 50 years ago. Politics at Hull began over 60 years ago. We were the first outside of Oxford to teach PPE.
Nearly 200 years after William Wilberforce’s death, slavery remains a global problem. The Wilberforce Institute leads in tackling modern slavery, coercion and human trafficking – shaping policy, business practice and public debate.
Research in our Faculty is truly diverse. Tackling outward-facing challenges, our research spans across the areas of society, culture, and education, helping to drive a fairer and brighter future for all.
From examining historical and modern forms of slavery, to crime and violence prevention, we’re working with communities and partners to tackle injustice head on. Our research into law, politics and ethics uncovers how decisions are made and how we view and influence issues of social justice. While our work in arts and performance explores our relationships with culture and the transformative power of arts in our communities.
