New Quizzes

From July, we will be making the New Quizzes option available in Canvas – when you add a new quiz in Canvas, you will have a choice between using Classic (existing) quizzes and the New Quizzes tool.

Video Guide

New Quizzes offers 4 new question types:

  • Categorisation
  • Ordering
  • Hot Spot (these questions are not completely accessible and should not be used in summative assessments)
  • Stimulus (a set of questions linked to a piece of text or image)

It also has new options to:

  • Provide access to a calculator and spellcheck during the quiz
  • Award partial credit for some question types and set a word limit
  • Shuffle questions and answers
  • Require a waiting time between attempts and allow students to build on their previous attempt
  • Print quizzes and display quiz grades as a percentage
  • Add ‘accommodations’ (extra time) for individual students that apply to all quizzes in the course
  • Access to the Rich text editor to add images/videos/links into your questions and into the high-quality feedback I know you will be setting up for students to see in response to answers in formative quizzes!

Please note, it will initially not be possible to download submission in New Quizzes or run a Student Analysis report.

Feedback screencasts

You can also now create your student feedback in Speedgrader as a screencast – by clicking the Recording option below the Speedgrader comment box you can Enable the Screencast option and record yourself scrolling through the student assignment and commenting on parts of it as they are shown on the screen – see this video guide.
