About this award

Chevening

Chevening is the UK's leading global Masters scholarship programme, managed by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). Chevening is open to students from over 160 countries worldwide, and Chevening Scholars are renowned for demonstrating great potential to become future leaders, decision-makers and opinion-formers in their own countries.

The University of Hull has received Chevening Scholars for over 20 years and in 2021 became a full Chevening Partner leading to the creation of five Chevening/University of Hull Scholarships. For the 2023/2024 academic year these scholarships will cover full tuition fees for up to five students.

We accept applications submitted by students from any of the 160 eligible countries in the 2023/24 academic year.

How to apply

1. Applications for a Chevening/University of Hull Scholarship must be made through the Chevening online application system

2. Applicants must then apply to the University of Hull as early as possible for a postgraduate taught programme.

Eligibility

Scholars must hold a degree that is equivalent to at least an upper second-class honours (2:1) degree. Find your country here for information on equivalencies.
Scholars must meet English language requirements as required for entry onto the University of Hull’s postgraduate taught programmes.
Scholars must apply for a University of Hull postgraduate taught programme which leads to a masters qualification.
Scholars must demonstrate the potential to rise to positions of leadership and influence, they will need to demonstrate that they possess the personal, intellectual and interpersonal attributes reflecting this potential.
Scholars must have completed at least two years work, or equivalent experience, by the end of September in the year prior to the academic year for which the scholarship applies.
Scholars must intend to return to the country they were selected from at the end of the period of study.

Restrictions

Scholars must not hold dual nationality where one nationality is British (other than for nationals exempt from this requirement listed in the Chevening Guidance for Applicants).
Scholars must not be employees (including interns), employees’ relatives (or former employees who have left employment less than two years before) of the UK government including the FCDO (including FCDO Posts), the British Council, Department for International Development (DFID), Ministry for Defence, The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Department for International Trade (DIT) and UK Border Agency (UKBA), the Association of Commonwealth Universities or the University of Hull.
Scholars should not already have received, or be receiving, financial benefit from a UK government funded scholarship
Scholars are not entitled to any further financial awards from the University of Hull.
Scholars cannot choose University of Hull programmes which are:
- Part-time
- Distance taught
- Less than nine months in duration
- More than 12 months in duration
- PhD or DPhil
- Taught with more than one month of study outside the UK

Deadline

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is 1 November 2022.
