Run, skip or hop your way to 5K with Team GB family day

The University of Hull is hosting a 5K Your Way event in collaboration with Team GB.

The event – the second time it’s been hosted at the University – takes place on July 15, and everyone is invited.

Fresh from winning a Gold medal with Team GBs rugby sevens team at the Krakow 2023 European games this month, Amy Wilson Hardy will be attending the event.

The day will include a 5k around the University’s stunning campus, as well as a host of family funs activities.

The event is free and all ages are encouraged to participate. While running may be what the 5K Your Way is most known for, past events hosted at the University have seen people walking, running and even skipping their way across the finishing line.

The race starts at 10 and the last runners will be expected to cross the finish line at approximately 11.30. Every participant will receive a t-shirt at the event.

Amy will be taking part in the warm up, walking the course, and runners and spectators will have the opportunity to take a photo with Amy.

Amy played her first rugby match aged 11 and went on to represent England through the age grades. Having made her senior England XVs debut in 2013, Amy scored 12 tries in the 2015/16 World Series across the five tournaments.

Amy earned selection for Team GB for the sports return to the Olympic Games at Rio 2016, where the team just missed out on a bronze medal.

At the 2023 European Games, Amy was part of a 12-strong team that flew to a 33-0 victory over hosts Poland to clinch the gold.

And after chasing Olympic qualification around the world in 2023, an emotional victory in Krakow finally clinched Team GB a women's rugby sevens spot at Paris 2024.

Tim Purdy, Wellness and Performance Manager for Hull Sport, said: “In the past, we’ve seen a lot of success with this day and a lot of people turning up to enjoy the fun.

“In 2021, we had over 300 people dancing, running and partaking in the 5K and our participants were cheered on by Tokyo 2020 medalists Bryony Page and Bradly Sinden. For this event, we’re delighted Amy will be joining us.

This year, we’ll have the usual event taking place, as well as a barbeque, food stalls, face painting, bouncy castles and lots of sports activities for people to get stuck in with. It’s a great day for everyone.
