Travel grant will help hundreds of visitors attend University of Hull Open Day

Hundreds of students who attend the University of Hull’s Open Day on Saturday 14 January are set to have their travel expenses reimbursed as part of the University’s drive to help applicants during the cost of living crisis. More than a thousand prospective students and their families have already booked to attend.

Chrissa Beaumont, the University’s Executive Director, Student Recruitment and Marketing, said: “At the University of Hull, we are committed to making our campus inclusive and accessible to everyone.

“Visiting a university, to get a sense of what student life might be like for you, is such an important part of the university application process. We want to give as many people as possible the option of visiting us by helping them out with their travel costs, which can be significant for those who live out of the region.”

Travel costs are reimbursed, up to £125, for those who travel over 20 miles to a University of Hull Open Day.

To help with the recent rise of fuel costs, our visitors can now claim 25 per cent more travel assistance – whether they're coming by car, train or bus.

“We are delighted to be able to extend this offer to our next open day on Saturday 14 January.

“We are also able to help visitors out on the day with meal and drink vouchers, which are always well received.

“We know that young people want to experience a few universities before deciding where to go, and the costs can really mount up. We hope that by offering a travel grant, students and their families will feel that attending an open day with us is affordable.”

At an Open Day prospective students can learn more about their chosen course, explore the University’s modern campus and chat to current students in order to discover what it’s really like to live, study and socialise at the University of Hull.

Chrissa said: “Our Open Days give visitors the chance to speak to course tutors and current students, explore our new library, accommodation and sports facilities and get a real sense of life in Hull.

“There is a real buzz on campus during Open Days. There are so many staff and students who are keen to share their love for the University and city – and our visitors are often surprised by the strength of feeling here.

“We are also proud that, over the past year, Hull has improved its standing in some of the UK’s most prestigious University rankings and we continue to invest in our student experience.

“We have recently invested £300 million in our facilities, with another £86 million to come, to create a truly modern and sustainable University campus for our communities here.”

Popular courses include: nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, physiotherapy and other health related programmes; business management, computer science, biological and marine sciences; law; engineering, psychology, and sports health and exercise science.
