Hull shines in 2020 National Student Survey

Overall student satisfaction at the University of Hull has risen, according to the 2020 National Student Survey.

The figures, released this week, revealed 84.2 per cent of students at the University said they were satisfied with their course overall – above the national HEI average of 82.8 per cent.

Both Geology and Astrophysics at Hull recorded 100 per cent overall student satisfaction in the 2020 survey, putting them top of the national standings for the subject.

American Studies also achieved the perfect score for overall student satisfaction.

The result comes as the University of Hull prepares to welcome students for the start of the 2020/21 academic year in September.

Prof. Susan Lea, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hull, said: “The University’s performance in the 2020 National Student Survey is testament to the dedication of our staff, who work extremely hard to deliver a truly wonderful student experience here at Hull.

“Student experience is a top priority for the University. Knowing that the satisfaction of our students is higher than that of students at many other universities is excellent news.

“This success also comes on the back of a very significant rise for Hull in the Complete University Guide Rankings.

“As we look ahead to September, and the start of the new academic year, we will continue to build on this success and improve the University for everyone.”

Over a dozen subjects at the University ranked in the top 10 nationally for overall student satisfaction.

Other subjects to make the top 10 include Mechanical Engineering, History, Music, English, Chinese Studies, Forensics, Physical Geography and Marine Biology.

The categories of ‘Teaching on my course’, ‘Assessment and feedback’, ‘Academic support’, ‘Learning resources’ and ‘Student voice’ all scored above the sector average for universities.

Over 2,100 students at the University of Hull took part in the 2020 NSS Survey, providing invaluable feedback into the learning and wider experience they receive.

The success comes just weeks after it was announced the University of Hull had risen 17 places in the Complete University Guide 2021 rankings.

Published on June 9, the rankings saw the University singled out as one of the biggest risers in the UK, climbing from 81st to 64th in the table.
