University of Hull set to welcome hundreds of students to virtual Open Days

Despite national restrictions, prospective students will still be able to get a glimpse of life as a student at the University of Hull at our Virtual Open Days taking place this week.

There is also the chance to ask current students questions on Live Chat about the Open Days and life as a student in Hull on the University website, where you can also book your place.

From learning more about their chosen course to exploring our beautiful campus and chatting to current students, applicants will be able to discover what Hull can offer them as a university.

Recent success in some of the most prestigious university rankings in the UK are set to make the University of Hull a popular choice for the next academic year, starting in 2021.

The University was named one of the top universities in the Northern ranking according to The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021. Now in the top 5 universities in the Northern ranking, the University, has climbed 17 places in the prestigious Good University Guide, up from 77th to joint 60th in the table.

This latest achievement builds on the University of Hull’s earlier success in the 2021 Guardian University Rankings in which it rose 23 places and the Complete University Guide in which it rose 17 places.

The Open Days, on Friday November 6 and Saturday November 7, will give visitors the chance to speak to course tutors and students through online presentations and forums, see the library, accommodation and sports facilities through a virtual tour of the University’s campus, and get a real sense of life in Hull.

Anja Hazebroek, Director of Student Recruitment and Marketing at the University of Hull, said: “While the announcement of the national restrictions this week unfortunately will affect many peoples’ plans, the University has been running its open days online since July so this weekend’s virtual open days can go ahead as planned.

“We cannot wait to meet everyone who is already booked on and encourage other applicants to do the same. We still feel it is possible to give our prospective students the full flavour of the campus online and to show them how friendly a place this is to be.

“We want to reassure all applicants and their families that we have gone above and beyond to make our Campus COVID-safe and we are already planning how we can make this the best experience it can possibly for students coming to us for 2021 entry.

“I encourage all those who have considered studying at Hull to sign up for our Open Days – which have proved very popular. In recent months, the University has improved its ranking in some of the most prestigious University rankings in the UK so we are expecting hundreds of people logging on to find out more about the student experience in Hull.”

The Open Days will provide information, including live broadcasts, on a wide range of courses and subjects at the University.

Popular courses include: nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, physiotherapy and other health related programmes, business; computer science; biological and marine sciences; law; engineering, psychology and sports health and exercise science.

There will also be opportunities for all visitors to live chat with staff and students.

Visitors will have access to a wealth of information, including videos, testimonials and ‘how to’ guides.

Course tutors will be on-hand to share details of the modules and career experience on offer, while current students at the University will also give an insight into life in the city.

Essential information will also be provided on areas including student accommodation, finance, admissions and support.

The events surrounding COVID-19 have seen the University respond in a variety of ways.

In July – when the University usually opens up its campus to visitors in person – the COVID-19 pandemic saw teams react quickly to move the events to an online platform, providing an immersive experience for prospective students and guests.

When the country entered lockdown in March, the University transitioned successfully into an online learning experience, adopting a blended learning approach for the new semester in September.

From a team of engineers producing vital face shields for the NHS and frontline workers, to academic staff taking up temporary clinical roles to support the national effort, the University has also played a vital role in responding to the pandemic.

Book your place now.

Recordings of all the live subject presentations will also be made available to all those who have registered to watch on demand after the event.
