Jobs, internships and industry placements

With more than 15,000 students studying a diverse range of degree programmes and over 4,000 graduates per year at the University of Hull, you’ll find highly motivated and talented individuals with the skills and attributes that you need to help your business thrive.

Key benefits

• Access the best of the region’s talent through supported internships, placements and student projects

• Tailored support to find the right fit for your business

• Promote your job opportunities directly to our students and offer interviews on campus

Employ an intern

A subsidised internship will provide you with access to real talent and the programme can be tailored to meet your needs.  We’ll help you find the talent you need to grow your business or to move a project forward.

Internships can be offered full-time or part-time, to students or graduates. Explore an individual’s suitability for a long-term role or recruit an intern for a specific short-term project. Internships are eight to 12 weeks in duration, often taking place over the summer vacation (June-September), but can be flexible to suit your needs. Whatever the format, our dedicated teams will work with you to establish the benefits an intern could bring to your business. Some of these may include

  • the introduction of fresh ideas and approaches to your business
  • connections to individuals with specific skills and knowledge who can be trusted with meaningful live projects
  • opportunities to identify and attract future talent, introducing them to the team and company culture
  • free-of-charge promotion of vacancies on our online jobs platform

As a business, wanting to employ an intern, you can approach the University direct by emailing careershull@hull.ac.uk.

“The internship programme has proven to be an important asset to the expansion and growth of our business. Currently we have three transport planners (geography graduates), who have joined our team on a permanent basis after completing their three-month paid internships. The programme is a great way to attract enthusiastic and highly skilled graduates. The skills that the interns have gained at university are highly transferable to our business. It allows us to offer students and graduates an opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the industry at first hand, whilst they work on live projects.”

Andy Mayo – Director of Local Transport Projects

“We work very closely with staff within the University of Hull Careers Service to access a strong local talent pool. We attend recruitment fairs, run presentations and also get involved with other activities such as mock interviews to help students develop their employability skills and allow us to spot future trainees.”

“The investment you have made in your students at Hull has certainly had an effect. Each year we are oversubscribed for the internship programme and competition for spaces is strong. This year six of the 15 places were awarded to students from the University of Hull and the reason is easy to understand: the support you provide ensures that students are able to submit high quality applications and are fully prepared for the assessment centre. We deal with universities across the country and so feel confident in recognising Hull as being a centre of excellence in maximising the potential of its students.”
