Performers in the 21st century must be creative, knowledgeable, adaptable and entrepreneurial. When you join Hull, you not only learn about music or the theatre, you learn on the job – by making music or theatre.
From day one, you perform and produce on major projects, both individually and collaboratively. You'll benefit from our partnership with Opera North, and you'll get the chance to work with industry organisations such as the BBC, Middle Child, The Roaring Girls, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), and the Prague Quadrennial.
Carys graduated from Hull with a Drama degree, and later became a junior production manager at Hull UK City of Culture 2017.

A Drama degree can open doors to a range of careers. Our graduates have gone on to work for world-renowned theatres and theatre companies. Many of them also find success in creative industries such as journalism and education.
In Music, we run a variety of schemes to give you a headstart with your career. Our graduates go on to become performers, conductors, producers, orchestral managers, teachers, music therapists, and audio engineers.

Our 400-seat concert hall and surround sound cinema also offers rehearsal rooms, performance spaces and professional recording studios.
As well as our flagship Duality Recording Studio, you also have access to our 3D sound (ambisonic) studio.
Perform at the internationally renowned Gulbenkian Centre: a Grade II listed, purpose-built theatre complete with studios and workshop areas.

Playwright James Graham (pictured) wrote This House (National Theatre), and Sherwood (BBC One). Musical director Martin Lowe worked on Mamma Mia and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. And theatre director Marianne Elliott works on the West End and Broadway.
Some of our students have set up record labels before they even graduated, and others carve out their own careers in the music industry.

Hull’s creative scene is thriving. Every August, 30,000+ people come to watch 200 bands play at Humber Street Sesh. Pride in Hull, our annual LGBTQ+ parade and day-long music festival, is free to all. Then we have Freedom Festival: a whole weekend dedicated to art, dance, music and theatre.
And, of course, there’s Hull Jazz Festival, Cottingham Folk Festival, Trinity Live, Hull Comedy Festival, and Humber Mouth Literature Festival.
