About the course

The University Certificate in Health and Social Care Practice at Level 4 for 60 credits, offers an easily-accessible and vocationally-relevant introduction to academic study through ‘bite-sized’ modules.

The programme is ideal for those who are interested in or may already be working in health and social care and who want to improve specific areas of knowledge and skills to improve their employability. For UK residents aged 18 or over only.

It is also aimed at those who would like to qualify as nurses, midwives, operating department practitioners, paramedics or social workers, but lack the academic qualifications for entry to professional registration programmes.

GCSE English Language and Maths Grade 4 or C or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths or equivalent are required for those wishing to progress on to BA Social Work.

Throughout the programme you will be assessed in a range of engaging and supportive ways that recognise everyone learns differently and brings their own unique strengths. The range of assessments include written assignments, portfolios of evidence, examinations, and presentations, giving you multiple opportunities to showcase your abilities and celebrate your progress.

Future prospects

This course is an approved entry route for our health degrees including BSc Nursing (Adult, Child, Mental Health, Learning Disability), BSc Midwifery, BSc Paramedic Science, BSc Operating Department Practice and BA Social Work. Students are required to make a full UCAS application for these programmes. All places are subject to the normal requirements for acceptable personal statement, references, successful interview, medical and DBS.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.

You must have access to a webcam and computer with internet connectivity to study on the programme.

As this course is an approved entry route for our health degrees including BSc Nursing (Adult, Child, Mental Health, Learning Disability), BSc Midwifery, BSc Paramedic Science, BSc Operating Department Practice and BA Social Work, all students who go on to apply for any of these programmes will be required to obtain a satisfactory DBS check prior to enrolment. Alternative Route into Health and Social Care

For those whose work or family commitments mean they are unable to study during the day, there is a part-time evening course. The Alternative Route into Health and Social Care is delivered through evening taught classes (Tuesday, 6-9pm) online, starting in September. No healthcare experience is required.
