Rugby League Scholarship
Our Rugby League Scholarship is a bespoke award tailored to you as an individual athlete. It offers a three-year tuition fee waiver ranging from 20% up to 100%, recognising both your sporting ability and academic ambition.
About this bursary
Our Rugby League Programme is delivered in partnership with Hull FC and is built on a rich heritage and deep-rooted connection to rugby league across Hull. As a core part of the city’s culture, this scholarship has been designed to support your athletic development while enabling you to pursue a dual career through sport and higher education.
Our players benefit from coaching delivered by Hull FC staff and have opportunities to train within the club’s academy and reserves environment. This creates a high-performance, semi-professional setting with a clear and realistic performance pathway

What you'll receive
The Rugby League Scholarship is a bespoke package, including:
- Tuition fee waiver of between 20% and 100%
- Tailored financial support award, to the value of £250-£500
- Physiological and performance testing
- A bespoke, professionally designed strength and conditioning programme
- Nutrition and hydration support
- Rehabilitation support and sports massage
- Athlete lifestyle support and guidance
- An all-inclusive gym membership
Eligibility
- To be eligible for this award you must be a new, full time, undergraduate, foundation year, or postgraduate taught student.
- You must have been assessed for fee status as a 'home' student, or expect to be assessed as a ‘home' student.
- Students may receive only one financial scholarship or bursary from the University. Where a student is eligible for multiple university scholarships/bursaries, they must confirm which one they wish to accept after enrolment.
- Eligibility for this bursary does not exclude or affect eligibility to apply for or receive hardship funds or other similar financial support should financial difficulties arise during studies as well as sport participation fund or employability grant.
- To be eligible for this award, applicants must have submitted the application, received an offer and firmly accepted the University by 30 June 2026.
- This bursary is available only to new students commencing on the first year of their programme of study.
- This award is for 2026 entry only. Students who defer entry to 2027 or later, or who interrupt or withdraw from their studies during the 2026 academic year, will not be eligible for the award.
- This bursary does not cover Hull York Medical School Students
- Receiving this scholarship is a commitment to play for the university rugby league team
