Gillian Stead Scholarship

If you're studying for a BSc or MSc degree in Mathematics or Mathematics with Data Science and have 128 UCAS Tariff points from three A-Levels or equivalent,¹ including an A in maths, you'll receive a cash award of £2,100.

The Gillian Stead Scholarship is paid in two £1,050 instalments per year, for a maximum of three years. These will be automatically paid in October and February.

You'll continue to receive the award in your second and third years of study if you have an average mark of 65 or above in each year.

Gillian Stead graduated with a first class degree from the University of Hull in Special Honours Mathematics, and in 1976 was awarded a PhD with a thesis entitled 'Theoretical aspects of moving interfaces'. After her studies here Gillian taught maths at A-level in many institutions and also with the Open University. Following her tragically early death, this memorial bursary was generously set up in her name by her father, to support students of the subject she loved. Students in receipt of the University of Hull Gillian Stead Scholarship will not be eligible for other University of Hull scholarships. The terms of the bursary are subject to review by the Department.
