Black Students in Law Scholarship
The Black Law Scholarship is an opportunity for a black heritage applicant looking to commence undergraduate studies in a law-related subject.
About this bursary
The University of Hull is pleased to offer the Black Students in Law Bursary of up to £2,000 in each academic year of studies for up to three years subject to continued performance. This award is designed to support two aspiring legal professionals during their studies. This award will accept applications from UK/home applicants.
How to apply
Applications are welcomed from applicants who have an offer to study an LLB or other law-related programme at the University of Hull.
To apply, you will need to provide a short written response to questions on the application form below. Your answers will play a key part in our decision-making, so it is important that you take some time to review your answers fully before submitting your application for the scholarship.

Please note this is a competitive scholarship, and unfortunately not all eligible applicants will be successful.
Eligibility
Applicants for this scholarship must meet all of the following criteria in order to be considered:
- Self-identify as coming from a black heritage background. This may include applicants from the following:
- Black or Black British – Caribbean
- Black or Black British – African
- Mixed - White and Black Caribbean
- Mixed - White and Black African
- Other Black background
- Applicants must be fee payers at home-tuition rate.
- Have a household income of below £25,000 (as verified by Student Finance England. Please note that you will need to have selected for Student Finance England to share your household income information with the University as part of your student finance application, and the University must have visibility of your household income via Student Finance by the date of the scholarship deadline in order for your income to be considered verified. Applicants whose income cannot be verified by Student Finance England in accordance with the closing date will not be considered).
- Hold least a conditional offer with the University of Hull for your preferred law-related programme of study to apply for this award.
- Have confirmed their law-related programme of study at the University Hull as their firm choice via the applicant portal.
Whilst all applications from all eligible candidates will be reviewed for consideration, the panel may also take into account additional factors relating to widening participation in their assessment of applications.
